Groats are mechanically treated (threshed) cereal grains without any chemical additives or preservatives added during production. They were staple foods of our ancestors, but sadly, in recent decades they were replaced by processed, refined and nutrient-depleted foods. Returning to a healthier way of life also brings groats back onto our tables, as they are an excellent source of energy needed to satisfy the caloric requirements of the human body and represent a rich source of dietary fibre.
All groats have a selection of softer varieties of cereals and are additionally thermally treated using a procedure which helps us avoid lengthy soaking and longer cooking times. With thermal treatment – moistening the groats with hot-water vapour and then drying them with hot air – we reduced the required cooking time of the groats to 10 – 30 minutes while maintaining their nutritional value.
